Reflecting on a Grateful Summer Journey


I am truly thankful for the journey this Summer has brought me on. We traveled through three states and left our mark along the way. We kicked off the season at the beach, reconnecting with friends and unwinding after a hectic school year. My daughter Claire, a senior this year, envisioned having her senior pictures taken in our nation’s oldest city, St. Augustine. If you know me well, you’re aware that St. Augustine Beach and the historic old town are among my favorite places in the world; they hold a special place in my heart. Beyond the nation's history, they are also tied to my own. I cherish the memories of day trips spent with family and friends during my childhood and teenage years. At 16, it was the first destination where I could roam freely with my friends, and we had the best time soaking in the sun, freedom, and sweets from the local candy shop!


After our adventures in St. Augustine, we returned home for a few weeks, during which I had the pleasure of working with a senior at a sunflower field and a beautiful ballerina in Downtown Newnan. Then, we made our way back to the Adirondacks, where we enjoy family time every year. I loved using my camera for some low-pressure creativity, capturing moments of the kids splashing, reading, and giggling. Claire even joined me for a moody evening shoot at the beach.


The grand finale of our Summer was a trip to Colorado. I have so much to say about that beautiful place, and I could go on for hours about my love for it. The stunning nature, the breathtaking mountains, and the expansive prairies create a fascinating contrast. I am continually amazed by the sight of a lake nestled within a mountain range; it truly boggles my mind.


While traveling, I prefer to keep my gear simple and always bring my equipment on the plane, which requires me to pack light! I typically carry my camera along with two lenses: the Canon 85-200 and the Canon 35-80. With these, I can capture most shots. I often include a small off-camera flash, light stand, and light modifier, allowing me to handle nearly any situation. Plus, everything fits in my bag, leaving room for some clothes and helping me avoid checked baggage altogether.
