When driving around Coweta and Fayette counties, you can't help but notice all the farms. Many of them have horses, and I was so lucky to capture one horse and one girl in a beautiful session recently.
I've only done one other photoshoot with a horse before, and that was when I was just starting out. So I was a little nervous going in — I didn't want to upset the horse or make him nervous if I was nervous. But after a few calming breaths, we had a great time.
The horse is Tater, and the girl is Anna. They had moved barns a few weeks before our shoot, so Tater wasn't 100% comfortable at the lake yet. We walked down there together, and he was such a good boy! He kept walking around and didn't want to stand still, and I learned that this is what horses do in new territory — they're basically hypervigilant, on the lookout for anything that might make them uncomfortable. I did choose to use a slightly longer lens for this shoot, so I could still get gorgeous images without being in Tater's space. After we got some beautiful shots at the lake, we headed back up to the barn, and Tater was completely calm and still. I learned so much about horses in the short time we spent together.
Anna was a dream to work with — she understood Tater, and that made all the difference. Anna's mom was there too, and she understands him just as well. Between the two of things, we had a safe and fantastic experience.
